Materiality – a new exhibition

Just to let you know that a piece of my work has been included in an online exhibition that was launched tonight. The exhibition is called Materiality and my piece is in Room 2.

In this show, materiality is investigated through multiple mediums including video art, sculpture, ceramics, digital collage, painting, and jewellery. This broad approach to materiality allows the audience to reflect upon the range of avenues that artists pursue in order to decipher our material world. All works on show have been created with sensitive and intelligent consideration of material qualities and interactions. The artists shown in this exhibition live and work all around the world, their works have been brought together in order to show an international survey of the investigation of materiality within contemporary art.

More Love Required

As mentioned in yesterday’s post, today I have released the track More Love Required. It was originally recorded quite a while before I conceived the idea of the L7 exhibition but when it came to planning the exhibition it seemed appropriate to release it to coincide with L7.

NEW EXHIBITION – STARTS TOMORROW

In a bid to help lift people’s spirits I’ve produced an exhibition of seven all new and uplifting images. L7 is a series of seven bright and positive pictures created in a mood of optimism as an antidote to some of the anxiety that currently haunts us.

L7 will run from 25th May 2020 to 31st May 2020 – one uplifting image appearing every day for seven days on my Instagram account @paulgarrardartist. At the end of the exhibition a free e-book will be made available for anyone who wishes to download, print and covet it. Watch this space.

I wanted to offer people something upbeat in these dark times; images of vibrant shapes and jolly colours. In this series I’ve tried to channel positive vibes of calmness, love, hope and mindfulness. We must never lose sight of the fact that life can be good. We need to remember and cherish that. I hope my pictures convey that. The world needs more love!

To coincide with the exhibition I am is also releasing a musical track entitled More Love Required. This will drop on Monday 25th May 2020 viaSoundCloud.

Psychasthenia

I’m very pleased to announce that a piece of my work has been included in an online e-book called Psychasthenia. In my opinion Psychasthenia is one of the best put together e-book/zine that I’ve ever seen. They’ve set the bar high and I’m fortunate enough to be included in it. You will find my contribution, entitled Blue Monday on Page 53. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

You will find the e-book on this link below:

GET OFF YER ARSE

I’ve just had a piece of my work published in a zine called GET OFF YER ARSE – Check it out.

Available online to download for FREE, it’s a well designed zine in pdf format that’s been put together by the artist Greta Sharp, and she says:
GET OFF YER ARSE is a DIY online publication sharing artists’ work that explore issues around mental health during a period of self-isolation and social distancing during the 2020 lockdown…

…I’ve always had ideas of creating a zine, and when a few weeks ago the entire world went into a state of emergency, (and what has unfolded since is something that was unimaginable to all of us) it seemed like an apt time to bring many creatives together on a digital platform.

Lush sounds ep

I’ve just released a four track ep on BandCamp. It’s available to download on a ‘pay what you think it’s worth‘ basis. So technically if you thought it was worth nothing you could download it for nothing, you know, FREE. If you’re not really into free music, and you think creatives should at least eat, you could pay a little bit more than nothing. It really is up to you. If on the other hand you’d rather just listen in full you can do so on SoundCloud – I would be grateful if you could at least share it.

Multimedia artist Paul Garrard has just released his first album of music

Upon its release Paul said, “I love music. I’ve been in love with it all my life, although I never ever thought I would end up making/composing it. But that’s now where I’ve ended up and it’s very satisfying. It’s another dimension in which to express myself.

First and foremost I’m an artist and I approach composing in a similar way to my art. Well, actually music is just another artistic strand. Music composing for me is a process very much like collage.

The album consists of ten tracks and has been released on SoundCloud track by track over the last few months with the final track ‘Silvery Tay’ released today. It will be available to purchase as a download on 1st January 2020 on a pay what you feel able to basis

He went on to say, “My music doesn’t fit into any one particular genre. Loosely speaking it’s a mix of ambient and up tempo avant garde, but it contains quite a lot of emotions and influences, so that categorising it is difficult. Which is how I like it.

About Paul Garrard

Paul Garrard is a multimedia artist with fifty years experience. The vast majority of his output these days is in one digital form or another. His work reflects how he feels, how he views the world and life with all its absurdities. “Art is life imagined and Nothing is ever black and white, even when it’s black on white; life and art should never be taken at face value.”
